It would be difficult to overestimate the effects Walter Winchell continues to have on American politics and popular culture. It has become a commonplace to say that America has a "culture of celebrity." Anyone contemplating a career in either entertainment or politics must assume that their every secret will be revealed and will likely be portrayed in the worst possible light
kingalonzoalvarezdepineda13 - you are a total hipocrit! You judge others so harshly while doing the very thing you claim you hate. Every morning your SPAM emails jam my computer up at work and I can't get my work done for about 5 - 10 minutes until your crap finishes downloading (kinda like you did with this opinion section). When asked to stop emailing the DMC campus you don't even reply or stop. You think you are so justified in raising a stink- but when others don't want to hear your opinion you cram it in their face anyway. YWith your approach - even if what you are saying is true- no one wants to hear it because it's SO obnoxiously done. You need to get the log out of your own eye.

Mayor Neal Reading Proclamation To Honor Vice President of Business and Finance With “José Luis Alaniz Day” During Board of Regents Meeting Today
Alaniz served as Acting President for over 10 months as College conducted presidential search
WHO: Corpus Christi Mayor Loyd Neal; José Alaniz, Vice President of Business and Finance at Del Mar College; the DMC Board of Regents, DMC President Dr. Carlos A. Garcia; and College administrators, faculty and staff
WHAT: Proclamation Reading for “José Luis Alaniz Day” by Mayor Loyd Neal
WHEN: 1 p.m., Today, June 8
WHERE: Isensee Board Room, first floor, Harvin Student Center, Del Mar College East Campus Ayers at Kosar or Dicianna Drive off Baldwin Blvd. (campus map available at
www.delmar.edu/maps/east.html)
VISUALS: Mayor Loyd Neal reading an official City of Corpus Christi Proclamation to honor the service and leadership José L. Alaniz, Vice President of Business and Finance, provided during the College’s search for a new president.
Segments of the Proclamation state:
“Joe Alaniz’s background mirrored that of many Del Mar College students, as he worked full-time during the day and attended Del Mar College at night to earn his Associate of Arts degree in 1973;” […] “and because Joe Alaniz maintained his responsibilities as Chief Financial Officer, while concurrently serving as Acting President; and because Joe Alaniz has lead the students and faculty of Del Mar College over the past year with the same dedication and professionalism that he has demonstrated each day throughout his career.”
FYI: By a unanimous vote of the Del Mar College Board of Regents on July 28, 2003, José Luis Alaniz, Vice President of Business and Finance for Del Mar College since 1992, was appointed Acting President of Del Mar College. The decision followed action by the Board to approve a settlement and release agreement with former College President Dr. Gustavo R. Valadez Ortiz.
Alaniz joined the College’s staff in 1977 as Internal Auditor. He also served as Comptroller for the College and Director of Fiscal Services prior to his promotion to the vice presidency.
He completed an Associate in Arts degree from Del Mar College in 1973, his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Texas A&I at Corpus Christi in 1975 and a Masters of Business Administration in Management from Corpus Christi State University in 1978.
A Certified Public Accountant, Alaniz has served as the chief financial officer for the Del Mar College District, managing the College’s $63 million budget along with overseeing operations and maintenance of physical facilities and capital building programs.
Alaniz’ background mirrors that of many current Del Mar students. He served three years in the U. S. Army before starting his college career. Married with one child at the time, Alaniz worked full-time during the day and attended Del Mar College at night to earn his associate’s degree. Alaniz and his wife Gloria have four children and three grandchildren.
During his service as Acting President, Alaniz has moved the College’s $108 million Capital Improvements Program forward. Del Mar expects to break ground for the new West Campus Industrial Education Complex sometime this summer.
